45 Queen Street
This one feels like a hidden gem on the high street. The buzzy, open-plan restaurant and bar, set inside a warehouse with rustic stone walls, serves wholesome breakfasts, cakes, focaccia sandwiches, and Sunday roasts. It’s also the locals’ favourite spot for a cocktail!

Mackerel Sky Bar
Somewhere that’s long contributed to Newlyn’s rising foodie rep, this seafood cafe is a great shout for lunch with its relaxed atmosphere, outdoor seats and crowd-pleasing sharing plates. Again, it’s seafood-heavy, and the menu changes regularly alongside a handful of hero dishes – of which the crab nachos are a must-order.

Barbican Bistro
Tucked on a side street opposite Penzance harbour, this is a family-run restaurant with fishing in its genes. Opened by brothers Jay and Jack Liddicoat, their fisherman father supplies most of the catch. Expect seafood-led small plates: crab croquettes with brown crab mayo, salt-and-pepper squid with saffron aioli, and whole lemon sole with caper and herb butter. Balance those out with their unmissable double-baked blue cheese soufflé.

Argoe
A love-letter to Newlyn’s fishing heritage, seafood doesn’t get much fresher than at Argoe, a cool but casual spot set in a wood-clad shipping container in the harbour. Shareable plates are fresh, unfussy and led by what’s been caught that day. Counter seats look out over the working harbour and a large sunny terrace is a local hotspot through the summer.

Jelbert’s
Imagine an ice cream shop so confident in its offering that they only serve one flavour. That’s Jelbert’s, a charming old-school ice cream shop in Newlyn that’s been serving up vanilla ice cream for as long as most locals can remember. Add a dollop of clotted cream for the full Cornish experience.
