Ianis Claman, part of easyJet’s cabin crew at Paris Orly airport, has a rigorous skincare routine before he flies. “I start my day by washing my face with a smoothing purifying cleansing gel from Filorga (Age-Purify Clean), which gives the skin a smooth feel and prepares it to receive the following products active ingredients,” he tells us.
“Then, I apply Silymarin CF serum from Skin Ceuticals, which contains pure vitamin C, and a Hydra-Hyal serum from Filorga, which contains the best hyaluronic acid. Just before leaving the house to go to work, I apply UV-Defence from Filorga (SPF +50).”
What are the best ways to look after your skin during a flight?
It can be tricky to cram skincare products into your hand luggage when you’re limited to a single plastic bag and liquid restrictions, but there are several ways to make sure you can take good care of your skin when flying.
“I’m a big fan of using high-quality make-up products – we have limited time on our short-haul flights, so I tend to use a spray mist on top of my make-up to hydrate my face if I feel it becoming dry, and I always pack hand cream (we need to wash our hands frequently on board, so our hands can get quite dry mid-flight),” Alexia Efthymiadou, easyJet cabin crew based at Milan Malpensa, tells us. Lip balm is also key. “I keep close to hand my lip moisturising stick from Nuxe Rêve de Miel,” says Ianis, while Travys is a loyal fan of the Business-class amenity kits from Qantas – “ I love the Li’Tya lip balm, it’s a favourite for our customers, too.”
“I see some very elaborate plane routines on TikTok; by all means, if you are having fun with it, it’s great; however definitely not necessary,” says Dr Psomadakis. “I like to have a little travel skincare kit with me. In my mind, the essentials are a moisturiser or balm (Aveeno have launched a Calm+Restore Oat Rich Balm which is the perfect travel size at 50ml – it’s my in-flight must-have), a little travel-sized face wash (washing your face on a long haul flight can really make you feel refreshed), a sunscreen to protect from all the high UV you are exposed to when flying, and a lip balm.”

How to look after your skin after you’ve been on a flight?
It’s important to figure out the ways in which flying affects your skin individually. “In the days following your flight you will just have to keep checking in and assessing your skin,” Dr Psomadakis tells us. “Did it end up extra dry? Did it lead to any little breakouts? Any skin issues that crop up need to be addressed, so you may have to adjust your skincare products accordingly.”
