On Thursday 26 March, Condé Nast Traveller readers descended on Mayfair’s hottest new restaurant for a night of fine dining to celebrate the upcoming start of another exciting summer season across Costa Navarino.
Located in the Messinia region of the southwest Peloponnese in Greece, Costa Navarino has established itself in recent years as one of the Mediterranean’s leading luxury sustainable destinations for discerning travellers.
To celebrate, MD Evgenios Dendrinos flew in to greet guests at Fenix, just days after it opened to London’s diners, alongside W Costa Navarino’s executive chef Nikos Billis, who was on hand to rustle up an exquisite multi-course menu in the gleaming kitchen.
Inside, Fenix gave the feel of an uber-sleek beach club, where tasselled lampshades and others crafted from wheat cast gentle shadows against rope-wrapped pillars and onto dazzling tiled floors.
Welcome drinks awaiting guests included a dangerously tangy olive oil martini and a moonlight mule, with thirsty attendees sipping away while peeking through the arched entrances towards an open kitchen where chefs were hard at work.
Canapés were circulated, marking the beginning of a lip-smacking evening incorporating Messinian flavours aplenty – Athenian tartare, octopus with fava puree and compressed watermelon among them.
