Not strictly a hotel, Terra Mare’s two water-skimming suites with fully equipped kitchens can be easily combined to create the perfect getaway for a group of friends or a family. A stone’s throw from Mytakas Beach, and seemingly carved into the rocks near the otherworldly white cliffs of Sarakiniko, Terra Mare is inspired by the island’s syrmata (local fishermen’s houses). Sleeping seven adults across two floors, it offers a rustic-chic approach to interior design, creating a barefoot luxury, Robinson Crusoe feel that is increasingly rare in Milos. While away your days on the lower of the two terraces, which are both painted turquoise to match the aquamarine waters just below, pausing every now and again to refresh yourself with a dive or a fresh juice. If you must leave this little slice of Greek paradise, explore nearby Klima, a pretty fishing village lined with colourful syrmata and a decent waterside taverna, Astakas. As the sun starts to set, hotfoot it home to Terra Mare for sundowners and home-cooked alfresco dinners on the terrace – you will have the luxury of feeling utterly alone in this magical, remote location on Milos.
Delmar Apartments & Suites
A modern Cycladic oasis in the centre of Pollonia, Milos’ picturesque fishing village in the northeast of the island, the Delmar Apartments & Suites (by the same owners as Noma Milos) are an easy, breezy option for those looking for a little more autonomy than the average hotel stay. Days are bookended by morning coffees and evening drinks on your balcony, with our favourite room being the Junior Suite, thanks to its generous alfresco terrace with wicker sofas big enough for two to lounge on. There might not be a swimming pool, but when you are a stone’s throw from a sea as crystal clear as that at Pollonia Beach, who cares? Delmar is the ideal base for looking to be a little more active during their stay, whether that is: joining the local kids as they leap off the tiny harbourside at picturesque Firopotamos, signing up for a full day onboard a yacht as it cruises around the island; or simply settling in for a long lunch – order anything with goat and the saganaki – at the family-run O Hammos near the port of Adamas.
