London City Airport has long been adored by savvy capital-dwellers. Since it first opened in 1987, the airport has proudly proclaimed itself as London’s only real city airport (dare to counterclaim with London Luton or London Southend and locals will scoff at the audacity). Its compact size means no waiting times, no queues, no crowds. It’s no longer a place just for business travellers – now, those looking for a speedy getaway or a quick weekend escape flock to the Docklands.
And now, in celebration of its 40th anniversary, the airport is opening its first ever lounge. In partnership with Swissport International’s airport hospitality brand, Aspire, this lounge will ferry passengers from security into a glitzy lobby area, with views stretching out across the runway.
Travellers can expect a barista station, a cocktail bar, and a seasonally changing food and drinks menu, inspired by the city itself. There will be dedicated working areas (targeted towards aforementioned business travellers) complete with private booths for important calls or meetings.
Andy Cliffe, Chief Executive Officer of the airport, said in a statement: “Our partnership with Aspire Pre-Flight Hospitality has unlocked an exciting opportunity to bring this space to life at a time when we are growing and innovating across our business. The introduction of this exclusive experience is answering a clear demand from passengers and will elevate our unrivalled customer offer and reputation as London’s most loved airport.”
