“I’ve been lucky enough to travel to NYC since I was a teenager,” says Rose Gray, the English singer-songwriter best known for hits ATTENTION!, Party People, and Angel Of Satisfaction. “Over the years, it’s become such an important part of my music and fanbase.” She’s talking to us before the start of her North American tour, just after the release of her latest single, Club to Your Arms.
“Between two headline shows, two pop-up DJ sets, promo, and very few moments to myself, it was a whirlwind. Even though I feel like I know the city well, it never stops surprising me. The energy, even on a Tuesday night, feels completely kinetic. I played two nights at Le Poisson Rouge, an incredible 750-capacity basement venue in Greenwich Village. These three days were full of chaos, great food, good conversation, and a lot of dancing. There’s nothing quite like it.”
She adds, “This trip meant a lot to me. Not only was it the start of my tour, but New York has always been a huge inspiration for my music. My song Everything Changes (But I Won’t) was inspired by a summer I spent in Brooklyn. I love this city.”
Below, Rose takes us behind the scenes of her flying NYC visit, bringing us along for the ride as she rushes between shows, label meetings and coffee pitstops – with some hints that more new music is coming later this summer…
New York, New York. What a treat to fly in before dark. I got a little emotional because I’ve always felt so connected to NYC. Different to any other city (other than London), it feels like a second home. Somewhere, someday, I really can see myself living here. It always surprises me actually how tiny Manhattan is.Rose Gray
