On Location peels back the curtain on some of your favourite films, television shows, and more. This time, we ask where was The Other Bennet Sister filmed?
Audiences have been captivated by yet another period drama this spring, since the BBC’s television adaptation of Janice Hadlow’s novel The Other Bennet Sister landed on our screens.
The series shines a spotlight on Mary Bennet, the overlooked middle sister in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, exploring how, while countless readers have dreamt of being Lizzy, many of us are Marys…
We follow the protagonist as she steps out of her sister’s shadows to find her own identity and purpose, finding herself at the centre of an epic love story along the way.
Stars of the new series include Ella Bruccoleri (Mary Bennet), Ruth Jones (Mrs Bennet) and Indira Varma (Mrs Gardiner) alongside a range of household names and up-and-coming talent such as Dónal Finn, Poppy Gilbert and Tanya Reynolds. But the other star of the show? The grand locations, of course. So, where was The Other Bennet Sister filmed?
It’ll come as no surprise to Cambrophiles tuning in that, despite being set across the Lake District, most of the series was filmed in Wales. “I love coming back to Wales”, said Ruth Jones. “I recognise so many crew members I’ve worked with before, and it makes me proud that we’re creating a production like this here. Locations like St Fagans Folk Museum are places I’ve known since childhood.”
