When one steamy hockey show ends, another must take its place – so the saying goes in 2026, at least. If you watched Heated Rivalry and felt a newfound interest in winter sports, then let us discuss (or introduce you to) Off Campus.
Based on Elle Kennedy’s best-selling novel The Deal, the series is a delicious combination of competitive campus hockey and college romance, and follows the lives of Hannah Wells (played by Ella Bright) and Garrett Graham (Belmont Cameli). Their unexpected spark soon turns into something more…
Like a great lineage of rom-coms before it, the series starts with a fake boyfriend proposal from Hannah. A music major, she asks Garett, a star hockey player, to pretend in exchange for her helping him with his grades. Set against an academic backdrop of Briar University, fans of love, heartbreak and self-discovery may have found their next favourite show.
This eight-episode series is streaming on Amazon Prime Video and is available to watch now. Great news for fans: it’s been officially renewed for a second series, too.
But the Condé Nast Traveller team were particularly intrigued by the series’ locations, so here is everything we know…
Where was Off Campus filmed?
University of British Columbia
The University of British Columbia in Vancouver offers the gorgeous college shots we’ve come to love. The university also serves as the setting for the show’s fictional Briar University. Shot across summer and autumn, locals may recognise the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre and the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre. The sports facility was used to shoot several ice hockey sequences. Spanning approximately 402 hectares, the university suits the series’ arc with the lively atmosphere of college life.
The DOUGLAS Autograph Collection Hotel
Another key location from the series is The DOUGLAS Autograph Collection Hotel in Vancouver. The luxury hotel serves as Dean’s New York apartment, where he and Allie stayed for Thanksgiving. The hotel’s lavish Den Suite provided the perfect atmosphere for these scenes with its chic interiors, a private lounge, and sweeping views of BC Place Stadium.
The cast of Off Campus shot some scenes at The Heatley, a cosy hangout spot in Vancouver. Nestled in the Strathcona neighbourhood, this pub and live music venue was used as Malone’s bar and for several social and nightlife scenes in the series. Known for its laid-back vibe and inviting ambience, this location mirrored the carefree spirit of college life portrayed in the series.
The Heatley
Capturing the carefree, intimate fun of a college bar isn’t easy, but the series found what they needed in The Heatley, a cosy hangout spot in Vancouver. The Strathcona neighbourhood pub and live music venue was used as Malone’s bar and also for a handful of social and nightlife scenes.
