More and more people are using the occasion of Valentine’s Day to offer their moral support to HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, in the wake of an incident involving a group of monarchy reform activists and her motorcade.

Instead of dressing in red for the day, people in many provinces dressed in purple. The princess was born on a Saturday, the colour of which, for Thai people, is purple.

On social network platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, many people, including actors and entertainment celebrities, changed their profile and cover photos to include images or graphic art featuring the princess and her works in support of the nation.

A Facebook user wrote that monarchy reform activists should not underestimate the love and respect people have for the princess. “In the past, we did not openly express this. Perhaps that’s why the activists did not appreciate the extent of it.” She sarcastically thanked the activists for providing an opportunity for them to join forces and display their love.

In Chiang Mai, Lampang and Uthai Thani provinces, government officials and local people, mostly dressed in purple, gathered at downtown ceremonies, organised to show their support and respect for the princess.
