If, like many of us at Condé Nast Traveller, you touch down in a new city and exhale something along the lines of “I could live here!” within a day or two, then the prospect of an official ‘workation’ may be an especially attractive proposition.
With millions of us completing our daily tasks on laptops, taking international calls on Zoom and enjoying greater office flexibility, the workation has quickly become one of travel’s biggest trends.
However, as much as working on the move may appeal, it can feel a little overwhelming choosing the ‘perfect destination’. Thankfully for curious digital nomads, travel eSIM provider Holafly has highlighted the best workation destinations for 2026.
To uncover where we should be whipping out our laptops, Holafly compiled a list of the 20 most-visited cities in the world and measured them by key metrics that affect travellers’ ability to work in a new destination. The metrics include the average summer temperature, air quality, elevation, access to local water and nature amenities, median one-night hotel price, walkability, broadband speed, and whether the city has a WeWork co-working location.
With more than 17 million global visitors passing through each year, it’s unsurprising that the French capital is named the best workation destination in the world for 2026. Thanks to a much more bearable summer temperature than many other destinations in the top 25, an average broadband speed of 240.67 megabits per second and a walkability score of 9.7, Paris has emerged as a hotspot for digital nomads right now.
In second place is Bangkok. The Thai capital has become an extremely popular destination for flexible workers – largely due to lower prices. The median price of a hotel is around £24 a night, while the city’s access-to-nature score is 15/15 and broadband speed is the highest of the top three cities at 317.03 megabits per second.
