Eweleaze, Dorset

The Glastonbury of UK campsites, Eweleaze has a cult following in the camping world with faithful fans returning year after year. The ultimate camping by the sea experience, pitches are spread over fields that overlook the Jurassic Coast and it has its own private shingle beach. It’s only open for six weeks through July and August but it packs a punch: there are food trucks, a farm shop, bakery, laundry service and wellness centre with daily meditation and yoga classes, Turkish baths and sauna. Given the school holiday timing, it’s a huge hit for families: there’s a petting farm, giant sandpit, an indoor playbarn, daily craft sessions and a storytelling tipi.

Hawarden Estate Farm Shop Campsite, North Wales

In North Wales, just over the border, not far from Chester, Hawarden Estate runs a family-friendly campsite attached to their farm shop, deli and café. Big advocates for hands-on, outdoorsy hospitality (the Gladstone family also run Glen Dye Cabins and Cottages in Aberdeenshire), they do things properly: camper hampers can be pre-booked with eggs, milk, pastries and meats, there’s a clubhouse with cooking facilities, a BYO bar, swimming lake, orchard and pick-your-own fields – plus their pub, The Glynne Arms, is a short walk from the site. Along with bringing-your-own-tent pitches, there are bell tents and an Airstream available to book.

Kinsbrook Vineyard, West Sussex

Kinsbrook Vineyard is a young, progressive winery in West Sussex with an inclusive, unstuffy approach to wine culture. As well as tours, tastings, a restaurant and deli, this summer they’re opening a field for campers through June, July and August weekends. Pitch up, crack open a bottle and have dinner in the restaurant, before stumbling back to sleep under the stars. Adults only for now!
