Marrakech

Kasia Gatkowska

‘The Jardin Majorelle in Marrakech. It shelters cacti, agaves, palms, ferns and other exotic plants. The view of the light-green fountain hidden in the back of the garden, set against the bright cobalt blue building, makes me come back time and time again. I can stroll here for hours, but because it gets really crowded during the day I try to be one of the first visitors. The garden was founded in the 1920s by a French artist, Jacques Majorelle, and became famous after it was bought by Yves Saint Laurent, who called it one of his favourite places on earth and for whom it was a source of inspiration. The last project of Pierre Bergé, Musée Yves Saint Laurent, designed by Studio KO, is literally next door and worth visiting when the sun gets too hot and the garden too crowded.’
