Best for: multi-gen families and lovers of the north

Perched atop a hilltop overlooking the charming pueblo of San Carlos, Can Curreu is a classic, one of Ibiza’s best-loved agroturismos. Rustic, whitewashed rooms – peppered around the main finca and lush grounds – are largely casita-style and very private, connected by orange-shaded walkways and higgledy-piggledy stairs, so there’s plenty of privacy for families with sleepy babies, unruly toddlers or simply teenagers who want some alone time. A massive 17 of the 20 suites (complete with cute kitchenettes for whipping up bowls of kids’ pasta) sleep four guests, and many can be interconnected with other suites, leaving no end of options for extended families. Can Curreu has two pools – one family-style and surrounded by cosy loungers with cracking views across the lime groves to the valley beyond. The second pool is over 16s only, heated and forms part of the hotel’s best-in-class year-round spa, home to thermal circuits, sauna, hammam, cold plunge and multiple treatment rooms where the remarkably attentive staff can arrange hypnotic massages and beauty treatments in minutes.

Restless youngsters will love the next-door farm, with its excellent riding stables (horses are a big deal at Can Curreu), while the whole family can wander off down the pretty camino to the fabled Las Dalias hippie market, where hundreds of stalls hawk vintage gems, bohemian dresses, leatherware, jewellery and more. The night market on Saturdays is especially fun for older teens, who can hang out at the bohemian bars, pick up tasty street food and perhaps even end up in Akasha – Ibiza’s most northerly nightclub, where big names performers such as Sven Väth and Roísín Murphy hit the decks from time to time. The village of San Carlos proper is an easy 20-minute amble along country lanes, with a raft of pretty boutiques, excellent restaurants (Pizza Enfarinarte is a godsend for sleepy tots on the way home from nearby Cala Llenya) and of course the legendary Bar Anita, arguably Ibiza’s most famous (and photographed) watering hole.

Address: Carrer Sant Carles, 0, 07840 Santa Eulària des Riu
Price: From about £295 per night
