Taking up 20 floors of the impressive Kabukicho Tower, Hotel Groove Shinjuku is a vibrant, modern hotel emanating the buzz of the local Kabukich area – Tokyo’s entertainment district – with its art and music theme. On arrival, I was greeted at the ground level entrance and swiftly ushered to the first of two lifts, taking us up to the sleek reception area on the 18th floor. Floor-to-ceiling windows greeted me in a spacious room, kitted out with a king sized bed and the same colourful carpets, sleek wooden panelling and nods to the musical theme that flows through the hotel’s communal areas. Before heading out for the evening, a cocktail at the hotel’s Jam17 bar is a must. Serving up sophisticated tipples in a swanky, design-led setting. It’s a stark contrast from the hidden speakeasy bars and karaoke booths that await below. Ruby Norris
