Twenty survival boxes are to be dropped into the cave through a shaft by border patrol policemen in the hope that the 12 trapped footballers and a coach will find them.
Each of the survival boxes which were prepared by the Police Strategic Office contains a map of the cave complex, a pen, sticky rice and fried pork, bread, a box of milk, a bottle of drinking water, some basic medines, dietary mineral, a torch light, a lighter, a blinker and a mobile phone.
Pol Lt-Gen Kraiboon Suadsong, commander of the Police Strategic Office, said that the survival boxes would be dropped into a creek inside the cave through a shaft and, hopefully, the boxes would be carried downstream through the site where the missing 13 were believed to have taken refuge.
It was believed that the 13 had fled rising water to seek safety on high ground at a spot known as Pattaya Beach – a sand dune in the cave.
Pol Lt-Gen Kraiboon said, with the help of a rope, a police officer would lower himself through the shaft as deep as possible and then dropped the survival boxes into the creek.
He added that he hoped one of the 13 would see at least one of the boxes, picked it up and searched for survival kits inside the box. Every box has a note which would help direct them to spots where they could be rescued.
Although the water level in the cave has not receded much, there have been no rains today. An addition of 40 water pumps have been installed and put to work around the clock. It is expected that the addition of more water pumps will increase by 16 times the amount of water to be drained out compared to the previous days.
