Pol Gen Vasit Dejkunchorn, a former senior police officer known for his integrity and active involvement in attempts at police reforms and fight against corruption, passed away Wednesday night. He was 88.
Pol Gen Vasit’s illustrious career saw him serve as chief of the Royal Court Security Police before becoming a national deputy police chief and later deputy interior minister during the Chatichai government. He was also known as a prolific writer whose crime fictions based on his career experiences became best–sellers.
Pol Gen Vasit was often cited as an exemplary police officer in term of honesty and integrity. He was accorded the honour of national artist in the field of literature in 1998. He spent the later part of his life campaigning against corruption as a key figure in Anti–Corruption Organization of Thailand (ACT).
His family said Pol Gen Vasit had been treated for terminal cancer at the Police Hospital for some time.
