Mercato Metropolitano Oktoberfest
Mayfair may not be where you’d expect to find a beer-fuelled German celebration, but Mercato Metropolitano’s festivities are set to change that. Leave the rowdy behaviour behind, as this is a family-friendly affair – a traditional oompah band is on hand for entertainment, and stalls serve German sausages, pretzels and sharing platters. There’s a great selection of German-style craft beer brewed on-site, available in half pint, full pint, and traditional one-litre stein sizes, plus lots of options if the bloat becomes an obstacle – G&Ts from the on-site distillery among them.

Oktoberfest London
Live music, full-size tented structures decked out in traditional trimmings, delicious Bavarian fare and a raucous atmosphere that puts Munich’s venues to shame. This is Oktoberfest in London at its finest, and tens of thousands of Londoners agree. It’s a touring spectacle, and this year can be enjoyed in Ealing’s Walpole Park and Finsbury Park. Bavarian tickets are the best value for money and include reserved seats in the middle of the action, a mass (1.5 pints) of house beers, a German snack and a juicy bratwurst.

German Gymnasium Oktoberfest
King’s Cross restaurant and bar German Gymnasium is the place to be this October for lovers of Bavarian food. The main celebrations may have come to an end, but there’s still lots to enjoy on the Oktoberfest Spezialitäten menu. Autumnal highlights include westfälische kartoffelsuppe (potato soup, smoked frankfurter sausage), schweinebraten (roast pork collar, red cabbage, dumpling, dark beer sauce) and Käsespätzle (a traditional cheesy noodle dish served with salad).
