Malaysian police are coordinating with the Interpol to locate the whereabouts of businessman Low Taek Jho, aka Jho Low, in an investigation linked to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad 1MDB) corruption scandal, The Straits Times Malaysia Online reported on Monday.
“We are looking at how far he can run and how much longer can he hide when authorities from Malaysia and other foreign countries are on the hunt for him,” a police source was quoted to have said, adding that police are in the process of collecting information on his exact whereabouts so that he could be brought in for further action.
Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said on Sunday that police would take the necessary steps to arrest Jho Low, allegedly the main suspect behind the scandal.
He said the Home Ministry had instructed the police to undertake the necessary action to arrest the fugitive businessman.
“Please wait. The responsible party including the police will take the necessary measures,” he reportedly told the media.
Earlier, it was reported that Jho Low had offered to meet authorities in Dubai to answer questions on the 1MDB investigation.
But Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad was quoted by Wall Street Journal as saying that he rejected Low’s offer.
