Germany ousted from World Cup after 0-2 defeat by South Korea


Reigning champion Germany crashed out of the World Cup after a stunning 0-2 defeat by South Korea tonight.  The Germans dominated the game at Kazan Arena in Kazan but lacked the finishing touch and lost several scoring opportunities.  South Korea scored two successive goals during injury time. Young-Gwon Kim put in the first goal in the 91st minute before Heung-Min Son scored the second goal four minutes.  It was the first time in 80 years that Germany went out of the World Cup in the first round.  The victory was a consolation prize for South Korea which was also eliminated from the tournament.   In the other Group F match, Sweden trounced Mexico 3-0 and because of Germany’s defeat both team continue into the next round.
