Condemned prisoner’s last meal of sticky rice and roasted chicken

Convicted murderer Thirasak Longji who was executed by lethal injection on Monday had sticky rice and roasted chicken as his last meal as he had requested, said Pol Col Narat Sawettanan, director-general of the Corrections Department, on Tuesday.

He said Thirasak was allowed to contact his family and to say goodbye to them after he was informed of the decision of his execution and taken to the execution zone.  The condemned convict was asked what he would like to have as his last meal. He chose sticky rice and roasted chicken, he added.

After the last meal, Thirasak was escorted to the room where he was given a lethal injection, said Pol Col Narit, adding that the convict appeared calm throughout until his final moment.

According to the Office of Justice Affairs, individuals who commit either of the following seven types of homicide are liable to capital punishment: murder of own parents, grandparents or direct descendents; murder of officials while on duty; torture murder or aggravated murder; murder of helpers of officials; murder to conceal one’s offence or for vested interests; murder to facilitate the commission of a crime; and pre-mediated murder.
