Your favourite small and secret hotel?
‘I didn’t even have to think about this answer. Without a doubt, no umm-ing and ahhh-ing, my favourite hotel in the world is Babington House. Don’t be livid, don’t scream at me for not mentioning a cliff-top retreat in Bali. When all is said and done, Somerset wins. It is small and cosy, but big enough so you can feel alone and separate with your family or friends. You can sit in the study and play cards for hours (have I mentioned that bridge is my life?), and the food is delicious and caramelised and crispy yet also soft – it’s very possible they break science – and the walks around the hotel are outstanding. As a rule, I don’t really believe in the countryside (I live on a main road and the Tube map is all I’m interested in), but Babington is different. I’m sure Bali is great but this is spectacular.’
