The bills on the election of MPs and the acquisition of senators have been forwarded to His Majesty the King for royal approval, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Kreangam said on Monday.
Mr Wissanu said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha forwarded the two bills to His Majesty last Friday.
Supachai Somcharoen, chairman of the Election Commission, said the EC is now ready for elections of both national and local levels.
He said that once the bill on the election of MPs receives royal approval and becomes effective, the EC is duty-bound to hold the election of MPs nationwide in 150 days.
Mr Supachai said he had no idea whether the election of members of local administrations of various levels or the election of MPs will be take place first.
However, he said the EC would like the elections of MPs and local administrations to be about three months apart.
