Bangkok City Hall cancels Chinese New Year celebrations as Omicron spreads
Written by Thailand News

Chinese New Year celebrations in Bangkok will be cancelled again this year to prevent the further spread of COVID-19, particularly the Omicron variant.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) say decorations and street illumination in Chinatown will, however, still be on display, especially along Yaowarat Road and at the Odeon Circle.

The BMA also noted that Chinese New Year rituals and traditions can still observed with COVID-19 preventive measures in place.

Chinese New Year falls on February 1st this year. Normally, Bangkok’s Chinatown would hold public celebrations for the occasion, such as dragon dances, traditional performances, as well as food markets.
