A car overturned after it lost control when its driver was apparently shocked when a huge jet of water spewed about 10 metres into the sky from the ground beside a road parallel to the Motorway in Bangpakong district of Chachoengsao province Friday morning.
Luckily, the driver whose identity was not known escaped unhurt.
It was later reported that the huge jet of water was caused by the bursting of a huge underground water tunnel supplying water from Klong Phra Ong Chaiyanuchit to Bang Phra reservoir in Chon Buri province.
According to the Royal Irrigation Department, about 50,000 cubic metre of water leaked out of the broken tunnel and flooded the Motorway at kiloa meter marker 50 before officials from the department shut a valve to stop the water supply.
Traffic on the Motorway at the scene and nearby came to a crawl for almost an hour before the water flowed into a klong and eventually into Bangpakong river.
Mr Thongplaew Kongchan, the department chief, said he had instructed a company which is responsible for the maintenance of the water tunnel to help the motorist whose car overturned when she tried to avoid the huge fountain of water.
