Press council asks media to do their jobs properly in their coverage of the rescue operations
Written by Thailand News

The National Press Council sought cooperation from members of the media who have been covering the search and rescue operations at the Tham Luang-Khun Nam Nang Non to do their job in an orderly manner that will not pose an obstruction to the officials, to check facts to ensure accuracy and to take into consideration the privacy right of the missing 13 footballers and coach.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the council said there had been many reporters and photographers at the scene and there had been a huge load of information, including confusing information.

For that matter, the council suggested the media, particularly social media, to exercise caution by checking the facts before their presentation to the public and to refrain from dramatizing the event in a way which may cause public panic or unnecessary concern.

And if the 13 missing are rescued to safety, the council said that members of the media must be aware of the right of the footballers who are mostly children and their news presentation should not impact on them and their families.

In the end, the council wish the officials success in their rescue operations.
