A European Foreign Affair minister was found to be infected with COVID-19, after his arrival at the head of a delegation to Thailand last night.

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul told a hastily-gathered news conference today that the minister, whose name and nationality are being withheld, arrived at Suvarnabhumi international airport at about 9pm last night and went through the arrival screening process.

He and his group were given RT-PCR tests, but the minister tested positive for COVID-19, which was reconfirmed in the second test. He was then taken to Bamrasnaradura Hospital and given the anti-viral drug Favipiravir, said Mr. Anutin, adding that the minister was asymptomatic.

Mr. Anutin, who paid a personal visit to the patient at the hospital, said the delegate will fly home on their government’s aircraft today.

The planned talks between the delegation and its Thai counterpart have been cancelled.
