Guests at The White Lotus are packing their Rimowa luggage and boarding their flights bound for the glittery French Riviera – but this time, they’re swapping sunbeds for red carpets. We’ve known for a while now that Season 4 of Mike White’s Emmy-winning series, which sees glossy hotel guests and employees entangled in scandal, drama and mystery, will be heading to the sunshiny Côte d’Azur. Now, we’ve learned a little more about the filming locations of the next season – and the setting gives us a rather big plot clue too.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, on paper, the series appears to remain the same as the previous (wildly successful) three seasons, with HBO showrunners stating that Season 4 will “follow a new group of White Lotus hotel guests and employees over the span of a week, taking place during the Cannes Film Festival”. Helena Bonham Carter, Steve Coogan, Sandra Bernhard, Vincent Cassel and Max Greenfield are among the glittery ensemble cast.

Where will The White Lotus Season 4 be filmed?

Reports that HBO had not renewed its partnership with Four Seasons, whose hotels in Hawaii, Sicily and Thailand stood in for the respective White Lotus properties in Seasons 1-3 have now been confirmed, with the production team looking to not one but two properties for the French Riviera setting of Season 4. The plot will unfurl across two White Lotus properties: the ‘White Lotus du Cap’ (filmed at Airelles Château de la Messardière) and ‘White Lotus Cannes’ (filmed at Hôtel Martinez).

We first heard rumours that Airelles Le Château de la Messardière would be used as a backdrop in January. “I can confidently say that this hotel,” wrote long-time Côte d’Azur resident Lanie Goodman, “will make the perfect setting for a season spent on the French Riviera – set high on a hilltop, with the temptations of Saint-Tropez and Pampelonne’s strip of all-day-party beach clubs below.”
