Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, one of London’s best-loved, most-celebrated restaurants, has announced it will close its doors after 16 years in January 2027 – meaning there’s just under a year to dine at this iconic landmark before it’s gone for good.
When it opened in 2011, Dinner by Heston Blumenthal quickly became one of the most talked-about menus in the capital. The dishes, inspired by historic British cuisine, included items such as the now-legendary Meat Fruit, a chicken liver and foie gras parfait moulded to look like fruit inside a mandarin jelly. These avant-garde recipes earned Blumenthal and the team at Dinner their first Michelin star in 2012, and a second followed in 2014.
But in March 2026, Blumenthal announced that the restaurant would conclude its residency at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, coinciding with its 16th anniversary.
To celebrate, the team will introduce A Journey Through History, an eight-course tasting menu that takes diners on an exploration of historic British gastronomy. Expect all the famous Blumenthal dishes to be present and correct – so yes, that means Meat Fruit and the much-loved pudding Tipsy Cake: brioche soaked in brandy and served with spit-roasted pineapple.
But dishes from the archives of Dinner’s past will also join the roster. Heston’s Dodger With Jam reimagines the popular post-war-era jammy dodger with raspberry jam and buttercream between shortbread discs. Powdered Duck, meanwhile, celebrates the work of one of Britain’s first-published female cookery writers, Hannah Woolley, serving brined suck breast with turnips and truffle.
The menu for A Journey Through History is rather dramatically presented on an illustrated scroll, immersing diners in the history which the team are drawing on to create these unique dishes.
The menu will be available for lunch and dinner Monday to Sunday (closed on Tuesday) until January 2027 for £195 per person. Book at dinnerbyheston.co.uk.
