Long a preferred hideout of East London’s bright, young things, this bar, nightclub and rooftop honours the ‘original’ Queen of Hoxton, Sarah Lane – a trailblazing theatre manager who celebrated drag and theatre in the 19th century. A short walk from both Liverpool Street Station and Old Street Station, the rooftop is a tropical hideaway from the hustle and bustle, yet characterised by its own unique buzz. Best for: A hidden gem
Upper 5th Shoreditch is something of a hidden gem atop the Courthouse Hotel Shoreditch, within the historic magistrates’ building on Old Street. It’s more laidback than some of the other rooftop bars in this corner of town, but in the best way. Sink into plush cushions and admire the surrounding views while bartenders craft tangy tequila sunrises and frozen daiquiris behind the bar, picking at chorizo popcorn and brie bites as the sun sets beyond the horizon.
