While the Royal Family may well have kitchens filled with more chefs than a Michelin-starred restaurant, eating out can offer – just as it can for most of us – a thrilling change from normality.
Often, they choose the destinations that have long been welcoming generations of their Windsor relatives with secret entrances, hush-hush waiters and the familiar ‘tah-dah!’ silver-cloche service so well ingrained in their upbringing – just as long as there’s no garlic or too many onions on the menu for Her Majesty (those are a no-no, always).
Sometimes though, it’s the neighbourhood bistros that twinkle in candlelight or the easy-come-easy-go restaurants where the reggae music and jerk chicken portions are more important than a blue-blooded visitor. Places they can go unnoticed and undisturbed – a chance to revel in the hubbub of the capital’s dining scene just like any other Londoner.
Here’s our round-up of the restaurants loved by the royals.
