5. Kricket
Rik Campbell and Will Bowlby’s contemporary twist on traditional Indian flavours has won them no shortage of fans in a city where foodies aren’t easy to please. Split into a handful of distinct sections – snacks, small plates, grills and curries, and veggie sides – dishes reflect executive chef Will’s culinary style, shaped by his tenure working in Mumbai and later under Vivek Singh at Cinnamon Kitchen in London. For the full fiery experience, round up ravenous pals and tuck into the Taste of Kricket tasting menu, designed for groups of four and above with dishes including recheado butter prawns, Keralan fried chicken and grilled squash, leftovers mopped up with piles of turmeric rice and masala naan, of course.

6. Roe
Roe is everything you’d expect from a Canary Wharf restaurant – sleek and stylish with an adventurous menu to match. The site, from the same team as Fallow, no less, is one of the hottest on the sustainability and zero-waste front in the city, boasting a menu stacked with the likes of tongue and cheek skewers, flamed sriracha mussels and flatbreads topped with pig’s head, jalapeño salsa verde and crispy pig’s ear. Should gustatory venturesomeness differ among dining groups, fear not – Fallow’s famous dairy cow burger and market fish favourites feature. A moment, too, of course, for the signature croissant rolls stuffed with a sausage patty, bacon, walnut ketchup and a fried egg. Chef’s kiss, indeed.
