With her distinct eclectic-yet-modern aesthetic and bold use of colour, Sophie Ashby is a breath of fresh air in a contemporary-design world accustomed to muted hues and restrained materials and textures. Studio Ashby, her London-based interior-design company, has an impressive roster of projects under its belt, from private Mayfair townhouses to boutique hotels in South Africa, and Sophie herself continues to be driven by a personal curiosity for beautiful things.
Her husband, Charlie Casely-Hayford, founded his namesake menswear brand Casely-Hayford (which has since extended to womenswear) at 22, together with his late father, the distinguished British fashion designer Joe Casely-Hayford. He’s styled the likes of Sam Smith, Poppy Delevingne and Marion Cotillard, and his suave suits are cool subversions of English sartorialism, often using fabrics from Japan and a dash of its minimalist mood. Head to the Casely-Hayford boutique in Marylebone for the original suited experience and personal tailoring – the fresh, mirrored space is designed by none other than Studio Ashby.
With Sophie and Charlie’s work taking them all over the world, we asked the creative couple to let us know their ultimate travel essentials – from oversized monochrome bags to suits of Japanese cotton.
