On Location peels back the curtain on some of your favourite films, television shows, and more. This time, we ask: where was The Holiday filmed?
There are a handful of movies that, no matter how many years pass, we feel compelled to dive back into for the upteenth time. One such flick we turn to ahead of the festive season is The Holiday – the 2006 rom-com starring Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law and Jack Black.
Critics may have noted the movie’s predictability at the time, but it was a box-office success and has since become a Christmas classic that many of us look forward to watching against the backdrop of our twinkling Christmas trees. As the plot switches between glitzy stateside scenes and cosy UK spots, it’s easy to see the appeal of visiting the filming locations, even as The Holiday reaches its 20-year milestone.
Here, we take a look at the real-life filming locations from The Holiday you can explore.

Shere, Surrey
UK scenes were predominantly filmed in Surrey. However, there’s some disappointment in store for fans of the movie and all things cottagecore, as Iris’ Rosehill Cottage was actually a temporary set constructed in a field in St. James’s Church, Shere, while interior shots were filmed on a Californian soundstage. It’s possible to follow in Cameron Diaz’s footsteps, though, as the stone bridge her character runs over is over the River Tillingbourne.
