Dawn is breaking over the African bush. I’m sitting in the dark, wrapped in a blanket beneath a vast canopy of stars on a wooden yoga deck overlooking the Olifants River. In the distance, a lion’s roar rolls out across the reserve, a primal announcement of presence and power. Our group of five strangers, united by a desire for deeper connection, greet each other with silent smiles.

You are home.” Fifteen minutes later, when we open our eyelids, morning has arrived. The last stars have faded, the sun has risen above the horizon, and the river flows as fluidly as our settled thoughts. Grounded and centred, we stir our limbs. Now it’s time for hot rooibos tea, a homemade granola bar and the first game drive of the day. Sashwa runs to its own rhythm, and it is a rhythm I immediately fall for.
