An ultra-contemporary dazzling white block of white cement and floor-to-ceiling glass, this mini-resort hotel (member of Maybourne) is poised on the edge of a dramatic cliff some 1,500 feet above sea level on the Grande Corniche at the easternmost border with Italy. As you step inside, an almost dizzying sensation kicks in immediately – from the plunging panorama of the multi-level terraces, you’ll see a sweeping stretch of Riviera and Ligurian coast, a ballet of mega-yachts and scudding sailboats below, hang-gliders swooping by, a bird’s eye view of Monaco and the spectacular cotton-candy sunrises and flaming sunsets. The 65 rooms, including 24 suites, come in different shapes and sizes, from luxe apartment-style panoramic suites whose wrap-around terraces jut out over the horizon to hill-hugging Corniche rooms with pine-shaded terraces and private pools.

Up on the rooftop, guests sip watermelon Negronis at the Dante Riviera bar, then tuck into courgette quesadillas at the newly opened abc kitchens restaurant, helmed by supernova chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, featuring flavourful, locally sourced, organic dishes. Downstairs, Riviera Restaurant is overseen by Executive Chef, Sébastien Tantot, who whips up refined seafood creations, but you can also dine at the water’s edge at the re-branded beach club, La Môme Riviera. Expect a rocky shore, coral and white striped sunbeds, a festive vibe and superb homemade bouillabaisse on the menu. Or snack on lobster rolls at La Piscine, by the mirror-like infinity pool, then work it off at The Surrenne Riviera, a holistic spa and well-being club and two sunlit high-tech fitness rooms.
