Despite our qualms about costs and the odd delay, we Brits remain very much lovers of the rails. Whether it’s the nostalgia of a steam train, the gentle rocking of a glitzy sleeper train or simply getting from A to B while going MIA for just a little while as the rolling countryside whizzes past, the slow travel opportunities trains offer make them all the more popular as we live ever busier lives.
Now, thanks to a new train-operating company created by a highly experienced team of rail executives and creative thinkers, we could be travelling even further on the tracks very soon.
While Eurostar recently announced plans for train services between London and Germany, they’re not the only ones, as competitor company Gemini Trains looks set to offer a direct route between the Big Smoke and Cologne by 2030.
This would be a game-changer for leisure and business travellers alike, connecting the capital to one of Germany’s most charming and culture-rich hotspots in roughly four hours – considerably less than many journeys can take at the moment, once changes are factored in.
This comes more than a year after Gemini Trains’ initial launch announcement, in which the Lord Tony Berkeley-chaired company outlined its plans for frequent services between the UK and continental Europe.
