The tripartite wage committee, comprising representatives of the government, employers and employees, is scheduled to decide on the new minimum wages at its meeting today. The new rates will likely be less than 400 baht a day, a rate which was promised by the ruling Pheu Thai party during its election campaign.

It is reported that the highest increase proposed from the current rates in each province is 18 baht, with the exception of two provinces which do not propose any increase at all.

Thailand’s minimum wages were last increased on October 1 last year. There are nine rates, according to economic situation in each province. The current rates are as follows:

  • 354 baht/day in Chon Buri, Phuket and Rayong.
  • 353 baht/day in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan and Samut Sakhon.
  • 345 baht/day in Chachoengsao.
  • 343 baht/day In Ayutthaya.
  • 340 baht/day in 14 provinces, namely Prachin Buri, Nong Khai, Ubon Ratchathani, Phang-nga, Krabi, Trat, Khon Kaen, Chiang Mai, Suphan Buri, Songkhla, Surat Thani, Nakhon Ratchasima, Lop Buri and Saraburi.
  • 338 baht/day in six provinces, namely Mukdahan, Kalasin, Sakhon Nakhon, Samut Songkhram, Chanthaburi and Nakhon Nayok.
  • 335 baht/day in Phetchabun, Kanchanaburi, Bueng Kan, Chainat, Nakhon Phanom, Phayao, Surin, Yasothon, Roi Et, Loei, Phatthalung, Uttaradit, Nakhon Sawan, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Phitsanuloke, Ang Thong, Sa Kaeo, Buri Ram and Phetchaburi.
  • 332 baht/day in Amnat Charoen, Mae Hong Son, Chiang Rai, Trang, Si Sa Ket, Nong Bua Lamphu, Uthai Thani, Lampang, Lamphun, Chumphon, Maha Sarakham, Sing Buri, Satun, Phrae, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet, Ratchaburi, Tak, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Chaiyaphum, Ranong and Phichit.
  • 328 baht/day in Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat, Nan and Udon Thani.

The wage committee’s decision today will be submitted to the cabinet for approval on Tuesday and will come into force on January 1, 2024.
