Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan visited the firework explosion site in Narathiwat’s Sungai Kolok district on Monday.

He informed the people affected that he will seek cabinet approval for a debt moratorium, as part of the government assistance program.

Eleven people died and almost 400 people were wounded when tonnes of pyrotechnics being stored in a warehouse detonated on July 30th. The blast swept through residences and Manu market, causing extensive damage.

Prawit’s visit comes just three days after Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha visited the site.

Prawit was informed that 682 households and three schools were damaged by the explosion.

Prawit said that he was very sorry that the accident had so severely affected people’s spirits. “I wish to offer you all my moral support, so that you can move on from the hardship together. The government will never abandon you,” he said.

He assigned authorities concerned to reconstruct the houses, as well as schools, so that they can resume as the new semester is near.

Prawit also visited injured people in hospitals, where he offered moral support to medical personnel.
