HungarianAMP Prime Minister Viktor Orban AMPhas warned that World War 3 is a looming threat, and appears to blame the West for giving weapons to UkraineAMP. Ever since RussiaAMP invaded UkraineAMP in February 2022, Orban has angered Western leaders with his reluctance to condemn Putin.
Now, he has told Hungarian news outlet Mandiner: “The war is getting more and more brutal and bloody…The war is worrying and dangerous for the Hungarian people. Our security is in danger.”
He added that “the West is providing Ukrainians with more and more modern equipment, I am convinced that the threat of world war is not a literary exaggeration.”
Orban continued: “When European and American leaders say that if this continues, we could end up in the third world war, it seems incredibly exaggerated at first, but where I work and where I see the events, this is a real danger at this moment.”
Hungary has angered Ukrainian President Volodymyr ZelenskyAMP by refusing to send weapons to Kyiv, and also criticising other western counties for supplying military aid.
He added: “Hungary has signed all the anti-Russian sanctions packages of Brussels and is forced to strictly comply with them.
“That is why it is classified as a country unfriendly to RussiaAMP, against which our retaliatory measures can be applied.”
However, he said that Moscow was “optimistic” that there would be “constructive interaction with Hungary.”
Stanislavov added: “Budapest demonstrates a pragmatic position, which is not going to give up even under pressure from its allies in the EU and NATO.”
