Thailand’s NACC urged to probe 14 projects endorsed by former navy chief

Political activist Srisuwan Janya has demanded that Thailand’s National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) investigate suspected corruption in 14 projects, implemented during the tenure of the former Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, Admiral Luechai Ruddit.

The Secretary-General of the Thai Constitution Protection Association submitted the petition and related evidence to the NACC on Friday morning.

Some of the projects listed by Srisuwan include:

• 14 billion baht to procure a fleet of marine patrol aircraft
• 150 million baht to procure a mine clearing device
• 5 billion baht for the procurement of a troop landing ship
• 456 million baht for the procurement of dual-system firing control equipment
• 112 million baht for the construction of the RTN Commander-in-Chief’s riverside guesthouse in Bangkok
• 405 million baht for the procurement of Chinese-made armored cars
• 35 million baht for the construction of an entry arch at Sattahip Naval Base

Srisuwan alleges that the planning and implementation processes of the projects were ambiguous and did not fit with the present circumstances, when the country is struggling through its worst economic crisis, and that some of the projects are not necessary at all.
