Thailand today (Thursday) recorded 2,636 new COVID-19 cases, including 671 cases among prisoners, and 25 additional deaths, according to the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).
Of the new infections, 1,385 are among those under observation and treatment, 522 were found during active screening and 58 were among arrivals from abroad, including 54 from Cambodia, said CCSA Spokesman Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin.
Dr. Taweesin said that 53 of the arrivals from Cambodia claimed to be online administrators and one a sales representative. Nevertheless, he warned all Thais, living or working in Thailand’s neighboring countries, not to slip back into the country via natural border crossings, but through proper immigration channels.
Cumulative infections, since last year, are 119,585. 76,636 have recovered and 42,246 are still being treated in hospitals, including 1,213 severe cases, 405 of them on ventilators. The total death toll is 703.
Bangkok today logged 1,001 new infections. The other nine provinces with high infections are Phetchaburi, 124 cases; Nonthaburi, 99 cases; Pathum Thani, 89 cases; Chon Buri, 65 cases; Samut Prakan, 61 cases; Samut Sakhon, 57 cases; Chanthaburi, 44 cases; Nakhon Pathom,38 cases and 30 cases in Ayutthaya.
24 provinces free of new COVID-19 infections are Khon Kaen, Phitsanulok, Lamphun, Lampang, Roi Et, Nakhon Phanom, Yasothon, Nan, Chumphon, Phayao, Loei, Phrae, Uttaradit, Chainat, Nong Khai, Amnat Charoen, Mukdahan, Nong Bua Lamphu, Bung Kan, Ranong, Phuket, Phatthalung, Phang-nga and Satun.
