Tim Curry, the legendary British actor, singer and stage performer whose unforgettable voice, remarkable talent and fearless performances made him one of the most distinctive entertainers of his generation, has died at the age of 80.
Curry died peacefully at his home in Los Angeles on August 25, 2026, following a period of declining health. His longtime manager and friend confirmed his passing. No cause of death has been disclosed. Curry had experienced significant health challenges following a major stroke in 2012.
For more than five decades, Tim Curry entertained audiences on stage, in film, on television and through his music. He possessed a rare ability to make virtually any character unforgettable—whether frightening, hilarious, mysterious, dramatic or completely outrageous.
But for millions of fans around the world, Tim Curry will forever be remembered as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Show and its iconic 1975 film adaptation, The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Curry began his professional career in London’s West End, appearing in the original production of the musical Hair in 1968. It was during this period that he met Richard O’Brien, who would later create the role that changed Curry’s life.
In 1973, Curry originated the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Show. His extraordinary performance helped transform the production into a cultural phenomenon, and he reprised the role for the 1975 film.
His portrayal of Frank-N-Furter was bold, theatrical, provocative and completely unlike anything audiences had seen before. Curry brought an unmistakable combination of charisma, humor, sensuality and theatrical brilliance to the character.

He gave memorable performances as Rooster Hannigan in Annie, Darkness in Legend, Wadsworth in Clue, the Concierge in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Cardinal Richelieu in The Three Musketeers, and Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island.
He also terrified an entirely different generation of viewers as Pennywise in the 1990 television adaptation of Stephen King’s It.
