Indonesian police will release super-yacht Equanimity back to its rightful owner, Equanimity Cayman Limited, after the South Jakarta State Court ruled that the vessel was not linked to 1 Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), the New Straits Times Online reported.AMP
In a statement issued Tuesday (April 17), Indonesia Special Economic Crime Unit director Dr Rudy Heriyanto Adi said the police would obey the court’s decision which ruled that the seizure of the super-yacht in waters off Tanjung Benoa on Indonesia’s resort island of Bali on February 28 was illegal and not conducted in accordance with the law.
The Cayman Island-registered vessel Equanimity is reportedly worth some 250 million USD.
“Based on the facts of the proceedings, it was found that the rightful owner of the super-yacht Equanimity is Equanimity Cayman Limited (and) there is no link between the yacht and 1MDB,” said Dr Rudy.
The yacht was seized as part of the US Department of Justice’s investigation into 1MDB.
It was alleged that the yacht was owned by Malaysian businessman Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low.
