Mae Hong Son Governor Chettha Mosikrat has ordered urgent assistance to be provided for local people affected by heavy flooding following days of heavy rain.

The worst hit areas are in Pai and Muang districts, where households, plantations, government buildings and tourist attractions have been hit by flooding, road damage and landslides.

The governor said that an initial survey found that almost 3,000 households have been affected. The governor assigned officials to visit the affected areas and provide urgent assistance to the people.

Chettha also expressed concern over situation in the Tham Pla – Nam Tok Pha Suea National Park, a famous tourist attraction in the province, which is also being badly affected by the flooding.

He said that the park should be rehabilitated in time for the approaching tourist high season.
