Political parties must wait another three months before they can start election campaigning or advertising in the social media, Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan said today.

He warned that political campaigning or advertising now would be deemed a violation of the executive order of the National Council for Peace and Order banning political activities and the cyber security act.

He said political parties must wait for the charter-mandated law on election of members of the parliament which would come into force 90 days after its publication in the Royal Gazette.

The NCPO is pondering easing political restrictions by allowing political parties to conduct six types of political activities, including holding meetings to recruit new members, holding meetings to elect party leaders and executive committees and discussing election constituencies and primary election.
