Another Leonardo Dicaprio film, Killers of the Flower Moon
At nearly three and a half hours long, Killers of the Flower Moon is exactly the kind of film I struggle to find time for at home, but would happily put on during a long-haul flight. Martin Scorsese’s epic tells the devastating true story of the murders of members of the Osage Nation in 1920s Oklahoma, with brilliant performances from Lily Gladstone, Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro. It’s certainly not a light watch, but it’s so engrossing that those three-plus hours go by surprisingly quickly.
“Whenever I miss the boat on a long film’s theatrical run, unless I’m organising a projector night (which, for any of Scorsese’s lengthy features, would need to fall on a weekend), the plane is my go-to. Fans of Scorsese’s action-packed films should note that Killers of the Flower Moon has a different pace, one that demands deeper attention. It’s unlike anything he’s ever made – a world away from New York gangsters – and a solemn commentary on the dehumanisation of Osage women and the wider horrors of colonialism in 1920s America.
