Six suspects have been arrested with a large haul of drugs in a joint action between the Office of Narcotic Control Board and the Royal Thai Police, ONCB secretary-general Sirinya Sithichai said at a press conference on Friday.
Mr Sirinya said the six suspects were arrested on Monday while delivering 9 million methamphetamine pills and 300 kilogramme of ice or crystal meth from Chiang Mai to Ayutthaya. The drugs were seized on Phahon Yothin road in Wang Noi district of Ayutthaya province.
One of the six suspects was Panatkit Sophonphumpanya, a member of a major drug dealer in the North, who had been on the run after a warrant was issued for his arrest in 2011. The other five suspects were Prinya Songsopha, 24, Atthapol Luephaya, 20, Ekapol Phanchanmaen, 31, Sumalee Sriburin, 33, and a 17-year-old boy (name withheld).
Their assets worth about 10 million baht altogether had been impounded, Mr Sirinya said.
The ONCB secretary-general said the meth pills seized were of the “wine1” brand, produced in the Golden Triangle area. They were believed to be of the same lot as the 10 million meth pills which were seized in November and December last year.
