Two days after the summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump in Singapore, North Korean state television yesterday aired footage of the historical meeting, describing Kim as a “respected world leader”, news agencies reported.
“The meeting of the century awaited by the whole world finally took place,” North Korean Central Television said in a 40-minute news documentary with scenes of Kim’s motorcade heading for the summit venue.
It said Kim was welcomed with “deep respect and boundless enthusiasm” while he was in Singapore.
NHK reported that the documentary covers Kim’s departure from Pyongyang on Sunday for the summit in Singapore on Tuesday through his return to the North on Wednesday morning.
The program’s narration says Singapore citizens couldn’t contain their excitement over witnessing a historic moment in their country, according to NHK.
It says they enthusiastically welcomed Chairman Kim with much respect. A smiling Kim is also shown in a luxury hotel room talking with aides while seated on a red sofa. The documentary gives detailed coverage of the historic summit. It shows Kim shaking hands and talking with Trump while laughing.
NHK said the document ends with footage of a Pyongyang airport as he returns with many citizens welcoming him back, holding national flags and flowers.
