Srisuwan Janya, secretary-general of the Association of Thai Constitution Protection Organisations, on Monday (June 11) filed a complaint with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, calling for him to take action against people wielding “dark influences” calling for protection money from vendors and motorcycle taxi drivers in Soi Or So Mor Thor off Rama IX road in Huay Khwang district.
The complaint was filed via Government House’s public service centre.
Mr Srisuwan said he had received complaints from villagers in Soi Or Sor Mor Thor that a group of men had demanded protection money from vendors and motorcycle taxi drivers, claiming they were the soi owner.
They demanded 600 baht per day from vendors and 30,000 baht per month from a pool of motorcycle taxis operating in the soi, or face harassment, said the political activist.
Mr Srisuwan said that this should not be allowed to happen in the heart of Bangkok and near to one of the country’s major news agency, referring to the Mass Communication Organisation of Thailand (MCOT).
He called for the prime minister to order the authorities to take legal action against these people for acting as people wielding dark influences in violation of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO)’s Order No 13/2559.
