Former deputy commerce minister Banyin Tangpakorn has been formally indicted in the Phra Khanong Court for the premeditated murder of 50-year-old construction tycoon Chuwong Sae Tang.
On June 26, 2015, Pol Lt Col Banyin, 56, a former Nakhon Sawan MP, rammed a car he was driving into a roadside tree in Bangkok’s Prawet district, killing Chuwong who was with him in the car.
Udomsuk police initially concluded that it was an accident. But Chuwong’s relatives suspected it was a murder and that the accident had been set up. They petitioned the Royal Thai Police Office to transfer the case to the Crime Suppression Division (CSD).
The CSD set up a panel to investigate. The investigation of witnesses and evidence revealed that it was not an accident. The investigators concluded that Chuwong had been murdered before the staged accident.
The CSD investigators forwarded the investigation report to the prosecution. The prosecutors decided to indict Pol Lt Col Banyin for premeditated murder. The indictment was formally filed with the Phra Khanong Court on Thursday (June 7).
The court accepted the case for trial. An appointment was made for Pol Lt Col Banyin to report to the court for a pre-trial examination on July 9 at 9am.
Pol Lt Col Banyin’s lawyer filed a bail request, using a 13-rai plot of land in Nakhon Sawan as collateral.
The court granted a temporary release of Pol Lt Col Banyin with 2-million-baht bail under the conditions that he must not travel abroad unless with court approval and must not meddle with evidence.
